about Cruze

Being born in 1994, I grew up in both worlds of constantly playing outside and getting into all sorts of mischief with my friends combined with having nearly unlimited access to the early internet which greatly influenced what I like to see today. Above all else, seeing different types of art posted on Tumblr blogs around 2010/2011 really inspired what I might be able to make one day, and shortly after that is when I felt the desire to try my hand at making art.

After experimenting for a while, I chose to enroll in academic workshops for 2 years, with an emphasis on still-lifes, portraits and figures from live models with charcoal and oil paint, and consider this period of time to be incredibly rich in information to heighten my skills but also my ability to understand what I'm seeing when viewing artistic work.

Currently, I focus chiefly on oil painting, pastel, and works made with ink on paper. I feel that the best work is made when my creative process is more playful and less rigid; many of my favorite artists belong to the Post-Impressionist / Expressionist eras of the late 19th & early 20th centuries.
